Mr. Andrew Tse, our founder, established the company in 1929. He was a very fond gardener and purchased the piece of land where we are now in Shousonhill to pursue his interests. Failing to obtain high quality seeds of western vegetables and flowers locally, he started to import them from overseas. Initially this was for our own use and later a packet seed business was started and also wholesale business to other local dealers.
The packet seed trade flourished particularly during the fifties and sixties. Our name was well established locally as supplier of high quality flower seeds. In the meantime relationships were established with major seed breeding companies in Japan, US and Europe.
In 1967 Andrew Tse sent his son Anthony Tse to the University of California at Davis to study Horticulture. Anthony Tse returned in 1975 with a doctorate in Plant Physiology and joined the company.
He continued to develop the seed business and besides importing and exporting, contract production of hybrid seeds in China was started in the mid eighties for foreign companies. Breeding worked was also started to develop our own products.
(1) Since at one time not so long ago we were growers ourselves, the quality of seeds we sold must be good enough for our own use before we can sell to our customers. It is quality and not price.
(2) We in the seed business our objective is to help farmers to make money and improve their livelihood. It is our mission to supply good quality seeds to farmers so that they will have better yields and income, otherwise there is no reason for our existence.
