The stagnant rainwater may damage cotton crop as the Met office has advised the growers to protect their crops from the adverse affects of still water in fields. The office in its 10-day advisory for farmers forecast more rains in different parts of the country till August 10. “Mechanism for drainage of stagnant water from fields should be evolved on priority basis and necessary requirements in this regard should be taken,” it says.

Farmers advised to take precautionary measures ahead of fresh spell of rains to protect their crops, livestock and property. It warns the farmers of pest attacks besides a robust growth of weeds after rains left soil and atmosphere conducive for their breeding. The office advised the growers of Potohar region to start sowing of Jawar, Bajra and other seasonal crops to take full advantage of the sufficient available moisture. Normal temperatures, the Met office expects in most of the agricultural plains of the country during the period. However, it says normal to gusty wind pattern may prevail in most of the agricultural plains of the country.
