Pakistan Agriculture Council (PAC) will host a day-long seminar at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) titled “How Business Can Transform Pakistan’s Agriculture.”

Speakers will focus on policy options from a business point of view and business success stories for transforming agriculture from a traditional to technology driven sector.
 
Paradigm shift
The plenary session would discuss a paradigm shift to a private sector-led, technology driven, innovative, entrepreneurial, and competitive agriculture sector.
Co-chairs of the session are Sikandar Hayat Bosan, Federal Minister for Food Security and Agriculture Research and Syed Babar Ali, Pro-Chancellor, LUMS. Raashid Anwer Convener, PAC will give the introduction.
Improving productivity
The session will highlight bridging the yield gap, improving productivity of small-holders, contract and corporate farming, and credit and technology constraints related to the agri sector.
Linking farmers with markets
The session will discuss improving availability, quality and timeliness of domestic markets for agricultural inputs and outputs.
Structural constraints
Suleman Ghani, former commerce secretary will speak on alternative structures and institutional mechanisms for contract enforcement and dispute resolution, regulatory and policy reform for the new agriculture paradigm.Co-chairs of the session are Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal and ex-minister Khair Mohamed Junejo.
The way forward
The concluding session will be chaired by Sikandar Hayat Bosan, Federal Minister for Food Security and Agriculture Research and Syed Babar Ali, Pro-Chancellor, LUMS.
